RAINNE

We Are Rainne

Named for the various elemental twists that rain storms take — from a light inconvenient drizzle to an unequivocally torrential downpour — rising alt-pop duo RAINNE are drenched in emotional catharsis to their core. Comprised of singer-songwriter Annie Dingwall and saxophonist/engineer Justin Klunk, the classically trained pair’s twisted, sinister pop offers a late-night-drive of a West Coast mystique that could easily soundtrack grim L.A. staples like Nightcrawler, Drive, or Mulholland Drive.

RAINNE’s origin story recalls similar underdog crossovers from The Neighborhood to Billie Eillish, and is anchored on Annie’s confessional songwriting. Lyrical themes and references span true crime podcasts and murder mystery suspense novels to universal tropes of morality, justice, and the fight between good and evil. Their creative orbit of co-writers and producer partners is ever expanding, but often times includes producers PLAYDED and Petie Pizarro.

The experimental duo first met during a GRAMMY Camp in Los Angeles, the summer before attending USC’s Thornton School of Music. Post-graduation, Annie both wrote for herself and others, earning film/TV synchs on American Crime, The Doctors, and Nude; while Justin toured as a saxophonist for the likes of Ariana Grande, Saint Motel, Lindsey Stirling, and Tommy Page.

To date, RAINNE has released five singles, beginning with “Petty” and “Psycho Killer,” which EARMILK called “feverish,” and followed by the lusty anthem “Dirty Little Dream,” their first ballad “Hollow” and new single “Sin,” which Ladygunn said explores “desire and passion through an addictive melody and stinging vocals.” The band’s heady live show has become a must-see in the Los Angeles circuit, with recent performances on Chris Sampson’s iHeartRadio program Joy Sounds, as well as at the Hollywood Bowl, where they served as opening support during the We Can Survive benefit concert that featured sets by Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Camila Cabello, Marshmello and more. They earned the slot after beating out 14,000 acts in Radio.com's Opening Act competition. After the performance, The Recording Academy profiled the band on Grammy.com, dubbed “L.A.’s dark-pop duo on a meteoric rise.”

The experience cemented their future ambition, to join a major artist on tour. Last year, the band made their first move at expanding their fanbase outside of L.A. by leveraging the Sofar Sounds platform to book an acoustic tour in select markets across the U.S. “To see a room of 60, 80, or even 200 people all go dead-quiet just so they can hear every lyric you have to sing,” says Justin. “That gives us the best feeling.”

“RAINNE is the duo of Annie Dingwall and Justin Klunk, and they gave a fantastic performance that gave Hollywood a glimpse into their brand of dark electronic pop.”

“The intensity is centered around an industrial and electronic pulse, eloquently wrapped in darker sonic hues which drown the traces of indie-pop during the chorus…The malice aforethought builds with the help of a heavy bass line towards a feverish, yet melodious soundscape.”
